A Review of the Jimmy Styks Paddle Board – How Good Are They On The Water?

by John Wren May 8, 2017
    written by John Wren

With the surge in popularity, paddle boarding has seen in recent years, there has also been an influx of manufacturers trying to carve out their own corner of the market.

Stand up paddle boards, also known as SUPs, are a popular and efficient way to explore the waters. With their wide and stable base, SUPs provide easy balance and maneuverability, making them a versatile option for exploring different bodies of water. Not only are SUPs a fun way to explore, but they also provide a low-impact full-body workout, making it accessible for people of all ages and skill levels. In addition, SUPs offer a unique and quiet mode of transportation on the water, providing a close-up view of aquatic wildlife and their habitats. Whether you’re an experienced paddler or just starting out, stand-up paddleboarding is a fun and active way to explore the waters and experience the beauty of nature from a new perspective.

One such brand is Jimmy Styks. In this article we will take a look at the most popular board they offer along with a complete Jimmy Styks paddle board review.

    For Beginners & Intermediate Paddlers

No matter if you are a beginner paddle boarder and are in search of a board to test the waters or you’ve been using a SUP board for years, the Puffer is perfect for all skill levels. It performs excellently on the water, can be turned easily and is lighter than standard boards by a few lbs.

    Easy To Carry

With this being an inflatable SUP there is no need to go out and buy a rack for your vehicle, nor do you need a ton of space to store it. The board fits nicely into the carry bag provided and can be stored in the garage or the back of the vehicle so it’s ready to go at a moments notice.

The top of the board, between the foot pads, is a simple nylon webbing carry handle which is enough for you to easily pick up and carry the board to and from the water.

With the weight of this SUP being 24.5 lbs, it is somewhat lighter than other models which are why it is perfect for both adults and children alike.

    Ready To Go

If there is one thing that bugs me about buying paddle boards is that once you have chosen the perfect board for you, you then have to drop another $100-$300 on accessories such as a paddle, lanyard, and a fin etc.

However, with the Puffer Inflatable SUP, you get everything you need to get you out on the water from the get-go. With the board comes all of the accessories including a fin, pump, paddle and leash and also a convenient carry bag as mention above.

So you can literally save a few hundred dollars by buying a ready-to-go board such as the Jimmy Styks Puffer Inflatable Stand Up Paddleboard.

Another neat feature is the inclusion of the bungee strapping at the front of the board, which give you the ability to carry t-shirt and shorts, perhaps a drink, some suncream or all your belongings inside of a small backpack.

    • Weight: 24.5 pounds

    What Customers Are Saying

We recommend ensuring that all air is rolled out of the board before adding it to the bag and ensure that you don’t place additional gear that will cause the bag to swell and put pressure on the seams. This goes for any bag and not just this one.

    Who Should Buy This Product?

Beginners and intermediate paddlers of any age will find this paddle board both easy to inflate and deflate, but also easy to carry and transport from vehicle to water.

    Who Shouldn’t Buy This Product?

If you’re looking for a more high-end board or you are a more advanced paddler I would suggest heading up in the price bracket to get a board that can handle what you’re likely to throw at it!

    Commonly Asked Questions

Is this suitable for sea and rivers?

Yes this can be used in both saltwater and fresh

    What is the weight limit?

225 lbs is the upper weight limit of this paddle board

    How long is this board?

The board is 126″ long or 10′ 6″ and it comes in at 30″ wide

    What are the packed dimensions?

This board comes packaged inside of the carry bag and measures 36″ x 15″ x 13″

Do I need anything else with this board?

No, all parts come with the package. So you get aboard, pump, and fin, along with the leash to ensure you don’t lose the board should you fall into the water. Also provided is the paddle and a carry bag/backpack to make transporting easier.

    Conclusion

As far as SUP boards go, the Jimmy Styks range really are great value for money. We like the i32 thanks to its gear storage solution, which is great for extra clothing, sunglasses and drinks bottles, but also because it comes with everything you need to get out on the water as soon as it arrives.

As far as price and value for money go, this is right in the middle of what I would pay for a board given my level of activity. I try to get out at least 3-4 time per month and I trust this board to perform when needed for a good number of years.
