Magazine Cares: Cash For Conservation
In an age where every dollar counts, and funding
for hunting and fishing conservation organizations is evaporating,
Outdoors Magazine is initiating a program to give back to
the sporting community; not with free advertising or old copies of
the magazine, but with cold, hard cash.
"We were getting solicited almost every day
for donations to this organization or that one," said James
Austin, publisher of Outdoors Magazine. "While we
always try to help, it became obvious to us that there was a way
that we could do more, and all of us would benefit. With a lot of
forethought we began to do the groundwork to launch the program we
nicknamed 'Outdoors Magazine Cares.'"
The working feature of Outdoors Magazine Cares is
simple. A conservation organization completes a brief registration
application with Outdoors Magazine. This allows a tracking
system to be initiated. Outdoors Magazine then makes the
commitment to give $5 to that organization for every subscription
to Outdoors Magazine sold through that organization's
efforts.
"It can be as simple as putting a link on a website,"
said Austin, who also suggested that some organizations he had
tested the program with were having tremendous success handing out
subscription cards at banquets and by emailing their members
directly. "The organization will determine how they want to
market it, and we will send them a check at the end of every
month. It's really a program that will yield as much as the
organization wants to put into it," he said.
In recent weeks, Outdoors Magazine has been working with a
handful of local organizations to work out any kinks in the
system. Now all the tools are in place, and Outdoors Magazine
is ready to expand the program. For more information on how to
